Just… stuff

.

Very quick one this week, but some cool news.

The LOTUS WAR trilogy has just sold in Brazil to Objetiva books – http://www.objetiva.com.br. Publication will be in Portugese, final release date to be announced. E-book format will also be available. Huzzah!

STORMDANCER also got a starred review over at Shelf Awareness – I don’t normally bounce my own pogo stick over my professional reviews, but this was another big one, and the review is funny too 🙂

Mr Mike Perschon, aka Steampunk Scholar, probably the greatest authority on the interwebs about all things SP just named STORMDANCER in his Top 10 Steampunk Must Haves, along with seminal texts like LEVIATHAN and BONESHAKER, so that was pretty awesome.

Thanks to all the folks who’ve been sending me pics of STORMDANCER in the wild. Please send more, it’s very cool seeing my baby out in the world.

THE WORLD section of my website is now complete – you can read a potted history of the Shima imperium, along with a little bit about each of the four clans here. We’ll be adding a new section with wallpapers and bonus stuff and whatnot in the next few weeks.

For people who couldn’t be at the launch asking about getting a copy of THE LITTLE STORMDANCER (very awesome of you), I’m currently investigating putting the book up online somewhere. I don’t really know the how’s of it all – I’ll need to do some poking around now that life is returning to a “normal” pace. But more news will follow.

The STORMDANCER blog tour is wrapping up, but there are still a couple of signed hardbacks up for grabs on the later stops, so if you’re looking for freebies, BAM.

As for my life, I’m back off the promo vacation. All the interviews and blog posts were kinda exhausting, but it was still awesome and I hopefully didn’t make an idiot of myself in any of them (although my sarcasm seems to be lost on some folks…). I’m working my way through third draft of book 3, awaiting editor’s notes on book 2 and tossing around ideas on a Secret Project which is shaping up kinda cool. At least in my head.

And that is all. Big Scary Hugs.

3… 2… 1… LAUNCH

.

Alright, this will probably be an epic length post, apologies in advance.

STORMDANCER has now officially launched in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia! Release was staggered over two weeks, which is why I’ve held off blogging for a while. That and the fact that I’ve been doing all kinds of cool stuff in other people’s houses (guest blogging and interviews, mind out of the gutter peoples).

I started writing this book in January 2010. Nearly two years of my life has gone into it, so it’s kinda incredible to think of it actually on shelves and in stranger’s hands now. I have to confess it still feel a little surreal – walking into a book store and seeing it out there next to Stephen King (!!!). So I want to officially thanks everyone, EVERYONE who’s helped promote the book – writing reviews or telling your friends or making art or whatever you’ve done. You are amazing and awesome and have helped make this experience absolutely unforgettable. Much love.

So we did a launch party at the Melbourne Dymocks store. Folks traveled from all over the country to be there, which was incredible. The whole night is something of a blur, and foolishly, we didn’t set anyone up on official cameraman duty, so we had to rely on other people to get shots of the night (thank you, thank you). I don’t remember much of it – not, as you might expect, due to hideous over consumption of alcohol, but more through an overabundance of adrenaline. There’s a really awesome photo montage/video compilation of the night here (many thanks to Braidos for putting it together) including my speech –  despite my nerves I didn’t fuck it up too badly, so that’s all good. There’s also some shots below. A special shout-out must go to my boys B-Money for sporting his awesome STORMDANCER T-shirt, and the Glouftiiiiiis, for being a man of his word and wearing the book on a gold chain around his neck for the entire night.

Other news:

Signed Bookmarks

The STORMDANCER book trailer has had 3k hits in two weeks, which was pretty amazing. I didn’t quite expect the amount of pimpage that I got, but it was well over a hundred pimps SO I need to figure out a way to give out these signed bookmarks.

SO, if you pimped the trailer on twitter or facebook shoot me an email at

stormdancergiveaway@gmail.com

Please note: you MUST include a physical mailing address to which I can post the bookmark!

I’ll collect emails until the 30th of September, which is a little under two weeks. I’m not going to make you go to the trouble of proving you pimped – if you want a free bookmark, I guess now is your chance 😛

Once the 30th rolls by, I’ll use a random number generator to pick the hundred winners. Apologies if sending a mail is a hassle, but my twitter feed has been bombarded with pimpage for various STORMDANCER giveaways and it’s impossible to keep track of everything.

So shoot me a mail with your addy, and pray to the Random Number Generator Gods.

I think that’s all for today. If you’re planning on heading out to a store to buy STORMDANCER, thanks very much. If you feel like taking a pic of the book on shelves and hitting me up with it on Facebook or Twitter, I’ll be eternally grateful.

Thanks all!

The anti-trailer

.

So here’s the thing: I think the notion of book trailers is a little silly.

I mean, you read books, you don’t watch them, right? But there’s this notion out there that a book should have a book trailer, that readers somehow expect it. So you you get two flavors – some ultra-expensive number with real actors and CGI and all the fancy-pantsery and jiggery-pokery, or you get folks cobbling together something on their home PC, trying to compete with trailers made with a 10k production budget.

And the thing is? Most of the time, you don’t learn anything about the book you didn’t already know from reading the jacket copy either way. But it’s all Very Serious Business™

THIS IS NOT THAT TRAILER. BECAUSE THIS BOOK SHIT IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN.

So we made a trailer for STORMDANCER. We had some fun. We hope you do too. You can find it on YouTube here.

And now, for the sweet, sweet bribery…

Here’s the thing – I had a bunch of bookmarks printed up. I’ve got hundreds of the things, and I’m fucked if I know what to do with them all. SO, I figure I’ll give away a bunch of them to folks willing to pimp this trailer thing. I hope to give away a hundred of them, signed. So if a hundred people pimp the trailer, you all get signed bookmarks. Oo-rah. If more than a hundred people pimp it, I’ll figure out some equitable way to divide the spoils. Or maybe I’ll just give away more than a hundred. Seriously. I have no idea what to do with these things.

If you pimp it on Twitter, make sure you hit up my handle and include the #stormdancer hashtag so I know you did it. Something like:

The #stormdancer book trailer from @misterkristoff is possibly the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mei6yRz7pTU&feature=youtu.be

(you may want to be less hyperbolic, but maybe hyperbole is your thing)

If you link it on FB, make sure you tag my author page so I know you did it.

This giveaway is international. We’ll run it until the US launch of STORMDANCER, which is September 18 (holyyy shiiiiiiit)

Righto, that’s it. As you were.
